School Programme

Hi, I’m Rach, the dance4life Schools Officer.

dance4life is an exciting initiative that seeks to inspire, educate, activate and celebrate young people around the world to take action to push back HIV and AIDS and improve global sexual health. We’d love to bring it to your school as it can make a real difference to students lives. Read on for more info and email me to arrange a session or find out more.

This programme is very much FREE AND FLEXIBLE and can be adapted to your school’s curriculum, aims and student development plans.

  • Stage 1 Inspire

Every year we run a nation-wide School Workshop Tour, which is the first stage of the dance4life programme. This looks at HIV in a local, national and international context using dance and music in an interactive and inspiring way. Watch this video for more information.

The workshop is completely free, and lasts for 2.5 hours (we can be slightly flexible with timings).

All you have to provide is a group of 150 to 300 students, and facilities to make it happen, such as a room big enough, microphones, speakers and a projector and screen.

  • Stage 2 Educate

After the tour we offer a series skills4life non-formal sessions led by our peer educators which can be tailored to slot in with your curriculum requirements.
These sessions will work with smaller groups of pupils to provide your students with in-depth knowledge about HIV and AIDS and Sexual Reproductive Health and Rights issues (SRHR) and how to take action.

Watch this video for more information.

All you need to do is provide us with the time and facilities for us to come in and run the sessions.

  • Stage 3 Activate

Once students have the knowledge, we support them to form ‘Taking Action Groups’ and become active global citizens, taking action on HIV and AIDS, SRHR and can also provide training for students to become peer educators. Agents4change have already been featured on the Guardian Development website, conducted interviews with celebrities and represented dance4life at local, national and international meetings. Your school could lead the way in providing the next amazing agents4change. Watch this video for more information.

Young people are awarded certificates and incentives when they take action.

All you need to do is support the group in their actions and tell us about it!

  • Stage 4 Celebrate

Every two years on the Saturday before World AIDS Day (1st Dec) dance4life hosts an international event bringing 50,000 young people together worldwide to celebrate their involvement with the programme. Our next event is in 2012 and all agents4change and dance4life teachers and educators are welcome to come!
