Ntenje Katota - Tour team 2007

"Dance4Life means a lot to me.  It has become part of my life and has given me the energy and skill to continue to raise awareness not only in my community but also out side my community it has given me a platform to speak on behalf of the voiceless children that are affected by HIV, it is sad that not much is been done when it come to access to better treatment but dance4life has given me the hope and strength to go on raising awareness and campaign and that some day hope is coming for people living with HIV in the world and especially Africa. It is a long road but it will be silly if we decide to give up we might not know how close we are. Lets continue the journey.

Simon Porter - Tour team 2006

"Being a member of the dance4life tour team was an exciting and inspiring experience. It opened my eyes about a lot of things surrounding the HIV pandemic, both here in the UK and on a worldwide scale. Most of all, my involvement with D4L confirmed my faith in the unifying power of music and dance, and reinforced my belief that young people can be a genuine force for change within the world today. "Being part of the UK Dance4Life event was a fantastic opportunity - seeing young people dancing across the globe for HIV / AIDS was really something special and I was proud to have taken part. Nowadays, you just can't talk enough about the importance of safer sex - remember you've gotta strap it up before you slap it up." - Tim Westwood, Radio One DJ and D4L UK ambassador

Schools

We have now completed Dance4Life's second year in the United Kingdom with great success read more about what happened in 2007 on our news feed and the following pages on this website.  We are now starting to look forward to an incredible 2008 and aiming towards a large school and college tour and International Event in November.  We are already looking for sixth form colleges and FE colleges in England and Wales for our 2008 tour.

The Dance4Life School and College Project is the most important part of Dance4Life! Every participating country organises the Schools Project, which is made up of four parts: a visit by the Dance4Life Tour Team, creating Agents of Change, life-skills programmes, and the Dance4Life BIG Event.

First, the Dance4Life Tour Team travels to tens of schools in several regions per country, to inspire youth in a funky and breathtaking way with musicians, dancers (to teach the worldwide Dance4Life Drill!), videos, peer educators and the inspiring stores of young people living with HIV/AIDS.

After this empowering visit, students become Agents of Change and begin their own actions - the second stage - like fundraising for AIDS prevention projects, advocacy towards their governments, and in all cases: active, in-depth involvement in a life-skills programme.

In the Life-Skills Programme – the third stage - young people learn negotiation skills (NO is NO), entrepreneurial skills, details on sexuality and prevention, human rights, the relationship between drug abuse and HIV, etc.

The fourth stage is the thematic Dance4Life BIG Event, a reward for involvement, every two years on the Saturday before World AIDS Day. This mainly occurs at the end of the whole process, but sometimes it happens at the start, acting as a powerful launch.
Eleven countries were involved in 2006, with almost 100,000 young people participating. In 2008 there are 22 countries taking part! Every country has a slightly different approach, but the goal is the same everywhere: challenging the youth to become leaders instead of targets. Sharing knowledge and taking action.

By World AIDS Day 2014, we aim to have at least one million people dancing all over our planet, connected by satellite, making a powerful statement of hope. This is the climax of the Dance4Life Schools Projects. A million involved young people dancing will make such a positive statement that we will attract media, politicians and the general public all over the world!
