Ntenje Katota - Tour team 2007

"Dance4Life means a lot to me.  It has become part of my life and has given me the energy and skill to continue to raise awareness not only in my community but also out side my community it has given me a platform to speak on behalf of the voiceless children that are affected by HIV, it is sad that not much is been done when it come to access to better treatment but dance4life has given me the hope and strength to go on raising awareness and campaign and that some day hope is coming for people living with HIV in the world and especially Africa. It is a long road but it will be silly if we decide to give up we might not know how close we are. Lets continue the journey.

Simon Porter - Tour team 2006

"Being a member of the dance4life tour team was an exciting and inspiring experience. It opened my eyes about a lot of things surrounding the HIV pandemic, both here in the UK and on a worldwide scale. Most of all, my involvement with D4L confirmed my faith in the unifying power of music and dance, and reinforced my belief that young people can be a genuine force for change within the world today. "Being part of the UK Dance4Life event was a fantastic opportunity - seeing young people dancing across the globe for HIV / AIDS was really something special and I was proud to have taken part. Nowadays, you just can't talk enough about the importance of safer sex - remember you've gotta strap it up before you slap it up." - Tim Westwood, Radio One DJ and D4L UK ambassador

2007 Tour Team

In 2007 we had an extremely unique 'international' tour team with representatives from all over the world.

From left to right Enoch, Dusan, Julie, Tom, Davia, and Ntenje.

The Dance4Life tour team is a diverse group dedicated to educating and motivating young people. The tour team consisted of:

- An SPW representative – Julie Cassard who is the Dance4Life school tour coordinator for the UK. Julie previously volunteered with SPW Nepal in 2005-2006 on the Health Education Programme.

- Red Zebra – 2 dance facilitators Tom Carr and Dusan Djurovic joined the tour to teach the drill, motivate and unite young people in the UK with young people across the globe.

- Ntenje Katota, Enoch Magala and Davia Morrison – visiting the UK from Zambia, Uganda and Jamaica respectively to take part in the workshop and share their experiences from their own countries with the students. Both Ntenje and Enoch are ex SPW volunteers, and have since been very active in their ex volunteer network and in tackling the HIV and AIDS pandemic in their countries in addressing policy leaders. Davia is a youth journalist and youth advocate in Jamaica and has been working closely with UNICEF, she has hopes of taking Dance4Life back to her country.

Other members of the tour team were Ollie MacDonald and Caroline Kippen who were part of the 2006 tour team.

Comments from the tour team:

"During the workshop, the tour team woud give their personal stories to the students.
It felt great seeing the young adults faces after hearing our personal stories. But it hurts me to know that I had to travel so far to disclose of my status and that’s some thing that I can’t do now in my country.
But what I have learnt I will definitely take it home and teach to my youth group. I have learnt a lot from the programme just as how the young adults have learnt from me.

I would certainly participate in any activity that SPW/ Dance 4 life is organizing. Thank you for this experience."
