dance4life is an easy way for teachers to educate their students about HIV and AIDS through mediums which will capture the imagination of young people.

Our schools project provides students with vital information about HIV and how it is transmitted; about the impact of HIV on both a local and a global scale; and about the powerful consequences of stigma and discrimination. They will learn how they can take steps within their own communities, and abroad, to start pushing back HIV.

The project can also help teachers cover their Citizenship and PSHE curriculum requirements.

Throughout the stages of our schools project, students will develop the transferable skills of communication, organisation, teamwork and leadership. These skills will not only help them throughout their school life, but can be included on CV's and further education applications.

The dance4life schools project will visit schools and colleges annually during the autumn term. If you want to be involved, if you want to take action, and if you can contact us, you can be part of dance4life!

We ask motivated young people to form a taking action group (TAG)

TAGS are made up of energetic and enthusiastic students and at least one member of teaching staff. They all attend a development training day which introduces dance4life, sets out the role of the TAGS, gives basic information about HIV and AIDS, and develops leadership skills.

TAGS will be at the heart of the dance4life project within each school. Their role will involve:

- Raising awareness of dance4life before the tour team visit
- Helping the tour team on the day of the visit
- Organising school awareness and fundraising activities
- Spreading the word about dance4life to other students in the school organising event that raises awareness of dance4life and HIV in their schools and communities.

The dance4life schools project comes to hold a workshop at your school. This is the heart of the concept – it gives young people the knowledge and life skills necessary to protect themselves, motivating them to inform their peers and take action in response to the pandemic.

The workshop is delivered by a diverse international team of dance facilitators, youth peer educators and an HIV positive speaker, who share their experiences of HIV and AIDS in a thought-provoking and moving way.

The students are taught the international dance4life drill. The drill is performed at dance4life’s international dance4life event, when over 20 dance4life countries across the world are linked by satellite to perform the drill in unison.

The workshop is two hours in length and is delivered to a large audience of up to 200-300 students.

Once the schools project has visited, they leave in their wake energised, enthusiastic and informed students ready to become agents of change and to participate in the international dance4life event. For further information, visit the empower young people page.
