Fundraising and Donating

dance4life relies on funding and donations to be able to continue to inspire and support young people to take action. Every penny we receive helps us to continue our work.

If you want to support us you could donate at www.justgiving.com/dance4lifeuk or check out some ideas in the simple fundraising guide below.

Every year we take part in Walk for Life, Europe’s biggest fundraising walk for HIV and AIDS. Why not join us next year.

Fundraising

Think through the following questions:

It’s often easier to work with others on a fundraising project. Why not discuss ideas with a Taking Action Group at your school (or if you don’t have one yet, start one up)?

  1. What type of fundraiser is it? (Check our A-Z below)
  2. Who is going to come or be involved?
  3. How will you be raising money? Will you have to spend money on anything and are you sure you’re going to raise enough to more than cover that?
  4. Why are you holding the event? (Make sure you have a clear message and aim.)
  5. Where will you fundraise?

Make sure everyone in the group knows their role and when things need to be done by (it’s worth breaking things down into smaller tasks). And don’t be afraid to ask for support, whether from friends and family, local businesses, media or even politicians. The Youth Engagement Officer (rach@restlessdevelopment.org) will also be happy to help you.

Sonali, Claremont High School Taking Action Group

Sonali

“After leaving the dance4life workshop we felt that we had gained a lot of knowledge. We thought it was brilliant and we felt that we wanted  to help make a change…It showed that together we can help stop HIV and AIDS.

1st December is World AIDS Day. In order to continue to spread the awareness of HIV and AIDS we believed that people should wear a red ribbon. We decided to sell red ribbons which we made by hand. We were able to sell many ribbons and raise money. In the future we hope to do as much as we can to help stop HIV and AIDS.”

Ideas for Promotion

  • Write about it (or make a video) for this website, you never know who might see it
  • Make some posters or promotional materials to put around your school, clubs, wherever it is your audience goes
  • Spread the word through your friends and family – get each of them to tell at least one other person about it
  • Make an event on Facebook and advertise your fundraiser through social media
  • Get in touch with local media. The Media and Communications Officer can support you with this.
  • Be creative

Remember that while you’re raising awareness about your event, you can also be raising awareness about dance4life, HIV and AIDS and global sexual health.
