Successful Dance4Life Media meeting

14-03-2008

On Thursday 13th March, Dance4Life UK held a successful Dance4Life media meeting in London. The aim of the meeting was to come together with specialists in the fields of media, event management, music, sound and advertising to discuss how Dance4Life UK could work together with them to reach out young people in the UK through the media.

Dance4Life International chaired the meeting, and it was kindly hosted by SSL International, a funding partner for Dance4Life.

At the meeting a number of different sectors were represented, from staff from the BBC, independent documentary makers, a media buying company, trackitdown – the first dance download website in Europe as well as PR agencies and music management agencies.

Peter Roach, Head of Social Marketing for SSL International (Durex) set a beautiful tone at the start of the meeting by saying how supportive he and SSL International are of Dance4Life, which enthused everyone present.

The main topic for the meeting was Campaign4Life and Wessel from Dance4Life International presented to the potential partners the concept of dance4life and how it is working with media partners. Konstantinos talked everyone through the International Campaign that is being developed by Saatchi and Saatchi before Caroline, Frank and Julie from Dance4Life UK talked about what was happening locally in the UK, what challenges and opportunities they face and why it is important to address HIV in the UK - an important message to bring people back to the why dance4life are here and give us the balance after all the excitement of Dance4Life’s potential.

The presentations were followed by an open discussion asking questions about where D4L UK needed help and suggestions on where they could go to find out more, and most importantly some offers for help. The most resounding advice from the meeting was the importance of securing some ambassadors from the music industry as soon as possible and some suggestions and contacts were given to help D4L UK along the way.

Since the meeting last week, there has been a hive of activity going on with people busily working away to make things happen. Memos of Understanding have been drawn up for all the partners present who offered to commit something to the programme. One partner who attended the meeting phoned on Monday to say how enthused he was about Dance4Life. Even though he had heard about Dance4Life before, hearing and seeing the presentations first hand in the meeting had a huge impact on him and really made him realise how much he wants to help.
