Concept, Mission, and Goals
Dance4Life is an innovative, interactive, positive and energetic international project. Every two years the Schools Project has its climax in a worldwide Dance4Life Event on the Saturday before World AIDS Day.
CONCEPT
First dimension: Schools Project + Dance4Life Event . The heart of Dance4Life!
In all the participating countries the interactive, educational, and life-skills orientated Dance4Life Schools Project consists of four connected activities, each one complementing the other.
First the Dance4Life Tour Team travels to schools in several regions per country, to inspire youth in a funky and breathtaking way with musicians, dancers (to teach the worldwide Dance4Life Drill!), videos, peer educators and actual young people living with HIV/AIDS.
After this empowering visit, young people start their own actions - the second stage - like fundraising for AIDS prevention projects, advocacy towards their governments and in all cases: active, in-depth involvement in a life-skills programme.
In this programme – the third stage - young people learn negotiation skills (NO is NO), entrepreneurial skills, details on sexuality and prevention, human rights, the relationship between drug abuse and HIV, etc.
The fourth stage is the thematic Dance4Life Event, a reward for involvement, every two years on the Saturday before World AIDS Day.
Second dimension: Act4Life; media campaign and television programme
With an international mass media campaign and a clear slogan, we want to reach as many young people as possible. We strive to give everyone the chance to become involved in Dance4Life through Act4Life.
Pushing back HIV and AIDS is an immense challenge. We learned that a positive and professional project such as Dance4Life can - with your help - inspire a wide range of people and organisations.
INTERNATIONALISATION
We are looking for key players in at least 30 countries, to realise our dream and mission. Dance4Life operates on the principle 'think global, act local'. So in every country, Dance4Life is slightly different in form (but not in aim!).
We are currently building relations with the media, the business community, NGOs, governments, schools, event organisers, and most importantly, with the youth themselves in different countries all over the planet.
MISSION
In the year 2000, 191 countries agreed on the Millennium Development Goals. One of the goals is to stop and start reversing the spread of HIV and AIDS by the year 2015.
The other Millennium Goals set in 2000 are also about topics we feel strongly connected with: education, health and more generally social and economic development. The implicit, and even at times explicit, message from Dance4Life and the World AIDS Campaign is clear: KEEP THE PROMISE!
GOALS
We have a goal - and it's quite ambitious. By 2014, we want at least one million young people dancing, all over the world, connected by satellite, making a powerful statement of hope. Check which countries are already involved. One million young people dancing will be a powerful global statement.
